Library Card Pocket Template

I’m a girl addicted to books. But carving out time to read is hard these days. When I was younger, I used to inhale books, sometimes reading one a day, but then adulting got its claws into me and well, like everything, it became harder to find time. With the turn of the new year, I decided to start waking up early when the house is silent and still to make a dent into what was becoming a tall and looming stack of unread books. I am very happy to say I can see over the stacks now. 🙂

My kids recently started summer break and as part of each day, I make them log each book read over the summer. I started wondering why I don’t do the same. Since reading time is precious, why not celebrate it as I do with other parts of my life within a journal?

I had this great idea to make one of those old-fashioned library card pockets and use one for each book I read during the year. I took a morning to create a template and when finished, I carefully selected a few sheets of pretty, vintage-inspired paper to use as my pocket base. I traced the template on the papers and cut each out, erasing the faint pencil lines leftover from the tracing. I easily assembled each using my bone folder, sewed the sides, while adding vintage lace and buttons for texture.

These pockets are everything and maybe more than what I hoped they would be when I first dreamt up this project.
