There’s something magical about stumbling upon a forgotten treasure at an estate sale. The moment I saw the vintage apron—delicately faded florals, worn-in cotton, and a hint of sweet nostalgia—I knew it was destined for more than just a hanger.
Instead of letting it collect dust, I gave it new life in the form of my new summer junk journal and I couldn’t be more in love with how it turned out.

Why a Junk Journal?
Junk journals are one of my favorite ways to tell stories without rules. They’re a perfect blend of memory keeping, art journaling, and crafting freedom. And what better way to celebrate summer than with a handmade piece full of vintage charm and seasonal whimsy?
The Apron That Started It All
The apron I found had this beautiful worn pink floral print with a pocket just begging to be repurposed. It spoke of home-cooked meals, garden mornings, and summertime laughter. I knew it had to be the cover of my next journal. I washed it several times and the stains wouldn’t budge, imprinting themselves on my new memory keeper.

The Transformation Process
I took that apron and turned it into a soft, fabric-covered journal with layers of lace, fabric, found papers, and old ephemera. The aprons ties became a whimsical built-in closure for the front. Every stitch holds a bit of history and each page will keep my family’s summer memories.

I’ve put together a full step-by-step cover tutorial on my YouTube channel, where I walk you through the process—from preparing the fabric to assembling the journal cover and adding those final vintage-inspired touches.
