Mood Board Journal

August 31, 2020May 17, 2021 ~ ginamakesit ~ 1 Comment

Hi, friends! I can't believe it's almost September. Actually, I don't want to believe it's almost September. I love summer and if it were up to me, all summers (and flower pots stuffed with zinnias) would be endless. But, alas, 'tis not the case. So to prepare for the inevitable September, I was disassembling my … Continue reading Mood Board Journal

Easy Fabric & Paper Rosettes

August 25, 2020May 17, 2021 ~ ginamakesit ~ Leave a comment

Don't you just love a rosette? I sure do. These rosettes started out very innocently. If there were some scraps on my desk, I would start twirling them, add some glue, and realize they sort of resembled mini roses. And that's how my rosette obsession was born. 😂 The best part is all you really … Continue reading Easy Fabric & Paper Rosettes

Experimenting with Crackle Medium

August 22, 2020May 17, 2021 ~ ginamakesit ~ 1 Comment

I've spent a lot of time recently making journal covers using a variety of supplies. I decided to try experimenting with some distressing techniques. I purchased this Folk Art Crackle Medium on Amazon and after it sat on my desk collecting dust for a few weeks, I decided to give it a whirl. After the … Continue reading Experimenting with Crackle Medium

August Mood Board

August 18, 2020August 18, 2020 ~ ginamakesit ~ 2 Comments

Happy August! I am one of those people who will hold on to summer forever, so don't start talking to me about crisp leaves, cozy night, and pumpkin spice because mama ain't havin' it. 😂  To help me focus on a specific aesthetic each month (and to guide my creativity), I've decided to create a … Continue reading August Mood Board

The seasonal drum continues to beat constant in my life with each sunrise and sunset, morning, noon, and night.
And here we all are, at once, with one foot standing tall and loyal in summer’s warm ray and the other foot carefully, tentatively, dipping into the golden ponds of autumn. On the edge of autumn is simply the best place to be.
I noticed a perceptible change this morning when I opened my eyes. The sun was younger, less alive than it was a week ago at the same time, not quite over the horizon, but not quite under it. The days, though still warm, have begun to noticeably shorten. The inky nights have started to lengthen and cool. The soft descent of summer has begun.
At the end of every journal, I like to write a letter to myself about where I’m at in my life and where I think I’m going. In my most recent journal, I started thinking about the idea of gratitude and how its meaning has shifted so significantly for me over the past few years. It’s interesting to note its evolution alongside the evolution of my own life and how it has paralleled the worries, the grief—and most recently, the happiness. It’s so clear to me now that gratitude is not something to have, but instead something to be. It’s an ever present mindset, a way to think, feel and ultimately live to fully experience the wonder found in each and every day.
Good morning from Illinois! ☀️
August is here and over the weekend I spent some time finishing my summer journal. I know, I know, summer isn't over just yet. But if you happened to follow along with me last year, you know my absolute favorite part of summer is approaching.
